DES PLAINES, Ill. – A 49-year-old woman died after the vehicle she was riding in struck the back of a semi-truck late Sunday night in north suburban Des Plaines. The victim has been identified as Nazly Rodriguez-Munoz of Des Plaines. Police say officers responded to a crash near Algonquin Road and Leslie Lane just before midnight. Upon arrival, they found Rodriguez-Munoz in the front passenger seat of a Toyota Prius, suffering from a severe leg injury. Officers applied a tourniquet before Des Plaines Fire Department paramedics transported her to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Preliminary findings indicate the Prius, driven by 28-year-old Giovanna Rodriguez-Fuentes of Des Plaines, was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road when it collided with the rear of a Volvo semi-truck. MONTEREY COUNTY – A man died in a crash between a pickup and a semi-truck on Friday afternoon on northbound Highway 101 at Hartnell Road. According to CHP’s preliminary findings, the Toyota pickup, driven by a 47-year-old Jesus Alfardo-Burboa, was heading northbound on Highway 101 as it approached Hartnell Road. At the same time, the semi-truck, operated by a 62-year-old Yuba City man, was traveling southbound and attempting to turn left onto Hartnell Road.
